Time for a Constitutional Convention

"...While it is rioting in rapine and insolence, this country will be the most miserable habitation in the world; because we have no government armed with power capable of contending with human passions unbridled by morality and religion. Avarice, ambition, revenge, or gallantry, would break the strongest cords of our Constitution as a whale goes through a net. Our Constitution was made only for a moral and religious people. It is wholly inadequate to the government of any other."

Proposition: If the electorate produces a Clinton-Trump matchup, we will have conclusively demonstrated the Constitution is wholly inadequate to govern us.

Thus, it is only right and proper to call a Constitutional Convention, because we are no longer worthy of the original document. We must take on an oligarchy, an aristocracy, socialism, communism, or some other form of government better suited to the wretches that we have become.

Discuss.

I blame open primaries for Trump, and perhaps even Hillary. The two-party system is only a de facto one, but the states who mandate open primaries have rather made it de jure, funneling voters into one party or the other, further frustrating the organic development of third parties. Trump has many votes from independents as well as angry Democrats whose second choice might even be the other joker, Bernie Sanders.

We can hope the GOP will assert its autonomy and #DumpTrump if the Donald fails to garner the majority of candidates for a first-ballot convention victory. Failing that, a change in the party rules severing open primaries from dictating the nominee.

Let us face it. There is no chance that constitutional convention would produce anything but a disaster given the debased state of the American people. I can just see a convention dissolving in rancorous chaos over Article 23,578 which is a three thousand word provision setting forth the right of "trans-sexuals" to use women's restrooms.
