Sauce Alito

You would be doing yourself a terrible injustice if you did not avail yourself of this preview of my article in The American Spectator exulting over the Alito victory.

No teaser quote: go and enjoy.

The jokes in your article were wonderful, Jay, and amusingly illustrated your points. Well done, old thing.

See, he says "left-wing extremists" and I start looking for Russian anarchists. Given that NOW, NARAL, and PfAW are not only mainstream but advocate positions that enjoy majority support in this country, they aren't extremists. MoveOn expresses views, if not rhetoric, that likewise are shared by the majority. Labeling one an extremist does not make them so. You extremist.

I can't believe you actually try to revive that tired canard about Breyer and Ginsburg. It was dumb this summer, and it's still dumb. They started out as and continue to be moderates. Roberts and especially Alito are completely different balls of wax. Both Breyer and Ginsburg were consensus nominees promoted by the senior members of both parties in the Senate Judiciary to Clinton as candidates and both originally recommended by Orrin Hatch (R-UT). Both were also confirmed before the 1994 "revolution." It is utterly false to contend that Republicans in 1993-1994 gave "deference" to a president's nomination of "liberal" justices. Because they didn't and they weren't.
