We have the president's pick for the Supreme Court and it's . . .Harriet Miers.
Could this be a less inspired choice? I mean, c'mon, Michael McConnell and Mike Luttig are still out there! Not to mention Edith Jones, Edith Brown Clement, Janice Rogers Brown, etc.
Something else that troubles me a bit is that the future Justice Harriet contributed money to Al Gore, Lloyd Bentsen, and the DNC. That's two Democratic Senators and the central headquarters of perdition!
In Ms. Miers' defense, I might add that the contributions in question were from the 1980's and that she has been more GOP oriented since that time. The donation schedule looks very Texas lawyer-ish and that's what she is.
We'll just have to wait and see. I'm a little worried we're in GOP/Rockefeller country where the country club conservatives rule over us rank and file heart and soul types while speaking comforting words.

ReplyDeleteIt's a different Exodus ministry, if I'm not mistaken. There's an Exodus ministry based out of Dallas- www.exodusministriesinc.com. We're talking about a different, much more socially acceptable type of captivity and release.
ReplyDeleteI see no reason for the Left to lose any sleep...

ReplyDeleteI don't know about that, but she did write a report recommending that sexual orientation be no barrier to adoption and another one supporting the formation of the International Court. I get the feeling that the conservatives will be more vocal than the liberals!
ReplyDeleteFor my dime, she simply has no applicable experience. She's a former corporate attorney who's never argued before the Court, nor has she ever sat a bench.
That and she's been Bush's personal lawyer since the '80s. On the heels of Michael Brown he nominates a long-time loyalist? Gee, that's not going to raise cries of cronyism...
I was listening to Bush's intro of Miers, and I believe he said that she was a former board member of Exodus Ministries...and then a caller afterward mentioned it as well. There is no reason to believe that she was involved in the ex-gay movement, Michele's post is infinitely more plausible.
ReplyDeleteI think it makes sense to retract our posts on this topic, rather than confuse anyone else. I'll take this one down in an hour or two.
James, this could turn into a bloodbath. I mean, if she ends up being another Souter, we're talking about another Goldwaterian revolution of the party.
ReplyDeleteGoldwater I wouldn't mind so much. He, at least, was consistently in favor of privacy for gays (Gays in the military? Who cares?), which is what had Newt Gingrich castigating him in the media. I'll pick a principled conservative over today's batch of histrionic and hypocritcal doomsayers any day.
ReplyDeleteBesides, anything that weakens the party of evil is okay in my book. =]
I am so completely utterly demoralized by this boneheaded stunt I can barely lift my fingers to type. Count me Supremely Underwhelmed. I had convinced myself that Roberts was such a canny, perfect choice that the second one would blow us away with its genius. Instead he gives us a Texas political hack.
ReplyDeleteCrap. That's all I can say. Crap.
