In the tradition of Trailing Edge Film Reviews, I'm initiating a new feature under the inspiration of Walker Percy. The title is This I Believe. Here's today's declaration:
Abba's Swedish pop sensibility is far more entertaining than anything the Rolling Stones have ever done. This . . .I believe.
I believe I should probably also find a new address before music critic S.T. Karnick comes knocking.
Oh yeah? Give me one example.
ReplyDeleteI won't declare Abba as better than the Stones, but I will give an example of one song that stands with the best of the best: "Take a Chance on Me." That is a truly sensational song.—STK
ReplyDeleteThen surely, Hunter, you appreciated my line in American Spectator last week when commenting on the Palestinian election: "Mr. Abbas, we don't need another dancing queen."
ReplyDeleteI'm awfully fond of "Super Trooper" and "Dancing Queen."
ReplyDeleteNo surprise there, Tlaloc! :)
ReplyDeleteI hated Abba when I was in high school. Now I hear S.O.S. and think, what a well-written song. "Where are those happy days, they seem so hard to find..." but for once I'm also with tlaloc. Early Stones were good, "Time is On My Side" comes to mind but I'm sure there's more.
