I still remember the night of the last GOP convention when he and McCain both spoke in favor of Bush. McCain was strong, but Rudy was off the charts good. He left a clear impression with me that this was probably what Theodore Roosevelt looked and sounded like on the stump.Hunter Bakerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14961831404331998743noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8776899.post-1170043597795329262007-01-28T23:06:00.000-05:002007-01-28T23:06:00.000-05:00I'm with Mike that Guiliani will be able to pacify...I'm with Mike that Guiliani will be able to pacify the social cons with a few nods in their direction. I don't see why they would need to torpedo him, given that there isn't anyone serious out there that would be "better" (from their perspective).

The key for Rudy is to stick with his strength as a turnaround expert. (This is not necessarily an automatic with him. We sometimes forget how listless his last few years as mayor were prior to 9/11.) The war is the only issue for conservatives right now, and he is one of the few that has the ability to reposition it successfully. The hard left will force the Dem candidate to go anti-war, and Rudy has the ability to stand out by exposing the flaws in that line of thinking (something our current president is completely incapable of doing). If can pull that off his conservative bona fides will not be an issue.Matt Huismanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09972662349345412127noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8776899.post-1170041983338434722007-01-28T22:39:00.000-05:002007-01-28T22:39:00.000-05:00Please forgive me for being "off topic" but Gates ...Please forgive me for being "off topic" but Gates of Vienna has an interesting Danish post regarding the "man, good or evil?" question:

http://gatesofvienna.blogspot.com/2007/01/navists-and-human-nature.html

Apologies also for incompetence in creating links in Blogger.Evanston2https://www.blogger.com/profile/09851967034946400308noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8776899.post-1170011168179151062007-01-28T14:06:00.000-05:002007-01-28T14:06:00.000-05:00I have to add that I think you're wrong about Reag...I have to add that I think you're wrong about Reagan. Anthony Kennedy had said publicly that he thought Roe v. Wade should be overturned before he crawfished and went the other way. As for his divorce, my understanding is that Reagan didn't want it and was terribly depressed about it after the fact.Hunter Bakerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14961831404331998743noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8776899.post-1170007743694795622007-01-28T13:09:00.000-05:002007-01-28T13:09:00.000-05:00He's the only non pro-life politician I'd consider...He's the only non pro-life politician I'd consider voting for and it does come down to hard core competence and a basically correct understanding of real governing priorities.Hunter Bakerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14961831404331998743noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8776899.post-1169960817594070652007-01-28T00:06:00.000-05:002007-01-28T00:06:00.000-05:00Yeah, STK, I've been workin' up to it meself.
