Thanks for posting that.Hunter Bakerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14961831404331998743noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8776899.post-74956212115595296472007-11-05T12:09:00.000-05:002007-11-05T12:09:00.000-05:00There are a few facts that you either elide or ign...There are a few facts that you either elide or ignore that undermine Mr. Giuliani's ad:

1) Giuliani was on state-funded health insurance (NY-Ship) at the time of treatment, as he was still mayor of NYC and therefore a local government employee. This plan is modeled on the Federal Employee Health Benefits Plan, which is the basic model for the proposed Clinton, Edwards, and Obama reforms. Oh, the horror.

2) His treatment (Bradychardia) was created in Denmark, in one of those socialized medicine countries that we hate so much that have no medical innovation.

3) The U.S. has a far more aggressive diagnostic schedule and screens far more incidences of prostate cancer than Britain. Dr. Zycher attempts to address this but leaves unaddressed the simple fact that our cure rate encompasses far more benign, early, slow-moving, and non-lethal cancers. A "snap-shot of one-year" argument simply doesn't account for that. This trend is increased within the five year data: U.S. screenings capture more "noise" in the form of benign or non-lethal cancers.

4) The average age of diagnosis in the U.S. for prostate cancer is 70. The most prevalent health insurance for people of that age is... Medicare. So, that kickass cure rate for prostate cancer being touted is largely through government-funded treatment.James F.
