There is nothing funny about the linked article, is there?
It's just a straightforward report about the strenuous effort being put forth by the state of New Jersey to convince people to stop avoiding a visit. It's a wonderful place to be; there is no reason to stay away. That's not funny at all.
Except this. The dateline is Philadelphia. Yep, the reporter wouldn't cross the state line. He filed the story from Pennsylvania.

A lot of articles about New Jersey come from Philadelphia. The Philadelphia media is the primary media source for most of Southern New Jersey. One hop over the Delaware River on the Ben Franklin Bridge and you go from downtown Philly to lovely Trenton.
There's a sign on the bridge to Trenton---"Trenton Makes, The World Takes."
We called it "The World Refuses, Trenton Uses."
Back then, all the tollbooths were on the Jersey side, and you didn't have to pay to get in, just out.
