The Revolution Be Dead, Man.

And we didn't line up any fat, prosperous programs against the wall when we had the chance.

Friends at the cool blog Rock, Paper, Dynamite, noted that we know the revolution is over when Republicans are happily killing budget cuts.

To quote the guys at RPD, "I think it’s safe to say, 1994 – 2005 RIP."

Newt, you philandering scoundrel, we miss you.

Amen. I was missing Newt even before I got to your last sentence.

Newt followed the marital trajectory of the modern successful geek. 1) his high-school math teacher. 2) a lobbyist with a lisp. 3) an aide in his office.

There is only one slot left, presumably for late in life: a hospital nurse if he experiences some ailment.

But on a more serious note, Hunt, your larger point is (cash) registering loud and clear in a lot of folks' consciousness. The reapin' Repubs better watch their backs.

An NBC/Gallup poll has only 37% of people thinking their Congressional representatives deserve reelection. That's down 20 points in just two months. The same poll puts a 48-37 preference for Democrats in control of Congress. That's better than any margin since '94. Also, these stats are worse for the party in power than they were at this time before the GOP took Congress.

Better come up with some good primary candidates, ASAFP, boys and girls.

From what I've gathered, JE, generic party preferences do not translate into electoral gains. Everyone hates every other congressman but their own, providing he brings home the bacon.

Nobody votes for a House member who nails his own constituents to the Cross of Gold. A House job is in the service/sales sector, closer to Amway than being the lead singer of U2.

This is the conundrum of American politics, and why things are like they are.

That's our whole point, Connie: the Republicans are writing checks without balances.

100% correct, Mr. Baker!

Rising Tide (the Republican National Committee magazine) looks more like something put out by Clintocrats, or Carterites, than anything Republicans should be doing. It is a 30 page celebration of unrestrained spending and draconian regulation. These are the official policies of the Republican Party!

We fought the Tsar, only to install the Bolsheviks!

Time for another revolution.

Mr. Birdnow, it's beginning to look like the establishment is the establishment is the establishment, isn't it?
